Old Fashioned Flight

Vanilla Brandy Old Fashioned

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 ounce Brandy XO or VSOP (I used E&J XO)
  • 1/4 ounce vanilla bean syrup
  • 2 dashes of chocolate bitters

Equipment

  • Bar spoon
  • Mixing Glass
  • Jigger or small liquid measuring glass
  • Rocks Glass

Instructions

  1. Build the cocktail: Combine the brandy, syrup, and bitters into a mixing glass. Add ice.
  2. Stir the cocktail: Using a bar spoon, stir the cocktail for 10 seconds to chill.
  3. Strain the cocktail: Fit a Hawthorne or julep strainer over the top of the mixing glass and pour the cocktail into a rocks glass over ice or one large cube.
  4. Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh a cinnamon stick

How to Make Vanilla Syrup

Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small-medium sauce pan over heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add in 1 vanilla bean split lengthwise with the little black seeds scraped out. Let the split vanilla bean and seeds steep in the syrup, and lightly simmer for 15-20 minutes. Remove the vanilla bean pod, and store the syrup in a glass jar for up to 2 weeks.

Banana Rum Old Fashioned

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 ounce Dark Aged Rum (I used Bacardi 8)
  • 1/4 ounce brown sugar banana syrup
  • 2 dashes of angostura bitters

Equipment

  • Bar spoon
  • Mixing Glass
  • Jigger or small liquid measuring glass
  • Rocks Glass

Instructions

  1. Build the cocktail: Combine the rum, syrup, and bitters into a mixing glass. Add ice.
  2. Stir the cocktail: Using a bar spoon, stir the cocktail for 10 seconds to chill.
  3. Strain the cocktail: Fit a Hawthorne or julep strainer over the top of the mixing glass and pour the cocktail into a rocks glass over ice or one large cube.
  4. Garnish and serve: Garnish with fresh grated nutmeg

How to Make Brown Sugar Banana Syrup

Combine 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of water and 1 ripe banana diced up into a small-medium sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Gently mash the bananas into the syrup. Lightly simmer 10-15 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve (or a coffee filter) to remove solids. Store the syrup in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Cinnamon Anejo Old Fashioned

Makes 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 ounce Anejo Tequila
  • 1/4 ounce cinnamon agave syrup
  • 2 dashes of orange or chocolate bitters

Equipment

  • Bar spoon
  • Mixing Glass
  • Jigger or small liquid measuring glass
  • Rocks Glass

Instructions

  1. Build the cocktail: Combine the tequila, syrup, and bitters into a mixing glass. Add ice.
  2. Stir the cocktail: Using a bar spoon, stir the cocktail for 10 seconds to chill.
  3. Strain the cocktail: Fit a Hawthorne or julep strainer over the top of the mixing glass and pour the cocktail into a rocks glass over ice or one large cube.
  4. Garnish and serve: Garnish with an orange twist

How to Make Cinnamon Agave Syrup

Combine 1 cup of agave nectar, 1/2 cup of water and 2-3 broken up cinnamon sticks in a small-medium sauce pan over medium heat. Stir until the agave and water blend. Lightly simmer 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit for an hour (or more if you want more cinnamon). Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove solids. Store the syrup in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
