I’m here with a delicious seasonal cocktail recipe that I created with my friends at ANGOSTURA bitters.
For this recipe, I transformed the classic Whiskey Sour into a holiday sipper with fragrant cold-weather flavors like vanilla and cinnamon. The essential ingredient that provides balance and complexity to tie this drink together is ANGOSTURA® aromatic bitters.
ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters is known for its transformative role in traditional cocktails such as the Old Fashioned and Manhattan, but a few dashes of ANGOSTURA’s iconic bouquet of herbs and spices also takes holiday cocktails to the next level. Check out my recipe below – it’s a guaranteed party favorite.
The Winter Sour
- 1 oz Calvados
- 1 oz Bourbon
- 1/2 oz vanilla cinnamon simple syrup*
- 1/2 oz spiced pear liqueur
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 3-4 dashes ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters
- Cinnamon stick, for garnish
- Lemon zest, for garnish
Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake with ice. Double strain the drink into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish with a lemon twist and fresh grated cinnamon (optional).
*How to Make Vanilla Cinnamon Simple Syrup
1 cup water
2 cups brown sugar
1-2 vanilla bean pods
3-4 cinnamon sticks
Split vanilla bean pods lengthwise and scrape the seeds out. In a medium saucepan, combine water, vanilla bean pods (and seeds), broken-up cinnamon sticks, and brown sugar. Bring to a light simmer for 5-10 minutes, and gently stir to dissolve the sugar. Remove the syrup from heat and let it cool before straining out the solids and storing in a glass jar in the refrigerator.
